Offconsult AG has designed the new offices of global campaign organization Greenpeace, located in Zurich, Switzerland. In summer 2014, Greenpeace Switzerland moved into their new offices at the newly built co-op „Kalkbreite“, in Zurich. Offconsult was able to help Greenpeace starting from the feasibility study through to the move-in. Greenpeace chose „Kalkbreite“, because they share the co-ops vision of sustainability and the forward-thinking ideas behind this project. As an environmental organization, a progressive community and energy concept are a key factor and part of its mission to demonstrate ecofriendly solutions. Wanting to lead by example, these are a few of the many reasons why the NGO selected this co-op as its location.

The principals of efficiency, meaningfulness and sufficiency were essential in the interior design and office management throughout the process from designing to implementing. For example, all furniture and materials used, new or existing, were tested for its eco friendliness and LEED certification. With a change towards a non-territorial concept and a very ambitious share rate of 0.4, an efficient floorplan, reduction of personal storage to one locker per employee and the introduction of reference libraries, it was possible to reduce the area per employee by 33%.

All internal processes were thoroughly examined by Offconsult, which resulted in digitalization, a paperless work environment and new ways of digital communication. The use of paper was reduced by more than 80%. Alongside a sophisticated layout with very popular hot desks, a new central hub was introduced. A hub that features lockers, service point, reception and various other amenities for the 100 plus employees. Greenpeace activities and current topics are also integrated as a vital part of the office design. Offconsult accomplished this forward-thinking and pioneering office, an all-inclusive and sustainable new home for Greenpeace with a very efficient workplace concept.
