Dutch artist Saskia Noor van Imhoff [1982] is known to meticulously explore and reshuffle spatial dimensions, blending in objects of choice along the way to create a narrative that’s all her own. Her current showcase at De Appel Arts Center in Amsterdam, a highly intriguing site-specific architectural installation entitled #+21.00, occupies the venue’s entire light-flooded upper floor, and mimics an archeological excavation, replete with treasure findings.
Similarly to van Imhoff’s previous installations, this one aims to reflect how artefacts and works of art are collected, preserved, managed, and last but not least, interpreted by their audience. This installation is another extrapolation, albeit one that makes use of immersive architectural elements, but only to emphasize the seamless connection between the artwork and their physical context. Full of detailing and layers, the multimedia installation provides viewers numerous discoveries and interpretations [on through Apr 10].
