The house of Dior is also one of the anchor tenants at Ginza Six, and its presence is equally grand, a combined multi-storey flagship store for the Dior and Dior Homme lines shows. Officially called house of Dior Ginza, it occupies a corner location on bustling Chuo Dori, the prestigious outpost flaunts a specially designed façade of back-lit panels by Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguchi that’s punctuated by four large windows and an entrance on street level.
However, the interior design has been entrusted to Peter Marino, a New York City-based architect and longtime collaborator who has worked on the luxury brand’s boutiques across the planet. Upon entereing the premises, shoppers find themselves in a lofty, seven-metre atrium in which Dior’s women’s bags, small leather goods, jewellery pieces and watches are presented in a setting that’s dominated by various shades of white.
A few steps further along, on a floor whose beige tavel stone and black cabochons stretch out like a long carpet, one reaches the first floor where the shoes are displayed in a space decorated with a wall artwork by Swedish artist Tarik Kiswanson. To be found on the other floors, each featuring a variety of lavish settings with custome-made furnishings and fixtures, are Dior’s women’s ready-to-wear collections, the Dior Maison Line, an exclsuive V.I.P. salon for the most discerning of clients, and a specially designed floor dedicated to the Dior Homme Line.
And that’s not all, folks. Similarly to the Dior flagship store in Seoul which opened two years ago, a Café Dior by celebrated French pâtissier-chocolatier Pierre Hermé has found a home here as well, and it’s an ideal spot where shoppers can recharge in between power shopping sprees. The setting in shades of grey is dotted with sofas and comfy chairs, and has a relaxed bourdoir feel. In celebration of the flagship store opening, the brand’s creative honchos flew in and staged presentations of the s/s 2017 Dior couture collection, and a separate showcase of the Dior Homme a/w 2017 collection.
