Although already present with an outpost in Los Angeles sprawling metropolitan area, madhappy has now upped the ante with a seaside retail presence in the leafy surrounds of Malibu. The contemporary fashion brand has secured a 223 sqm. (2,400 sq.ft.) unit on the premises of Cross Creek Ranch, a newly opened open-air shopping centre which has become the coastal town’s home of leading brands and hospitality concepts. The interior design sees a renewed collaboration with London-based design practice Brinkworth, featuring a the brand’s signature understated design codes, but here, also taking ample cues from the highly influential, post-war Case Study Houses across Southern California, in addition to elements of Malibu‘s scenic landscape and carefree energy. The latter is specifically captured by an elongated display and shelving unit with a limestone surface, effortlessly linking the interior to the rugged mountain range outdoors. madhappy’s signature pastel hues are saturated here in the sunlight, with a blue floor tying in the design and mirroring the sky outside.
Adding another engaging visual layer to the settings is an inventive plantscape by Los Angeles-based interior plant design studio Plant Provisions. Given the brand’s strong easy-breezy lifestyle aura, the store is more than a retail space, offering the avid madhappy fanbase and other shoppers also a cool space to sit back and chill. As such, a nook of the retail space is home to a comfy lounge furnished with stainless steel-encased curved blue sofas, paired with bespoke House Under Magic speakers in Douglas fir and set within the laser-cut stone surface. The new madhappy store stocks the full range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes, eyewear and assortment of lifestyle products. Needless to say, PANTRY, madhappy‘s very own in-store canteen is also present here, embedded in a sleek all-metal volume. Here, a curated selection of local and global culinary partners come together to offer a collaborative menu, including Tokyo-based café HOTEL DRUGS, Courage Bagels, Bianca bakery, Beverly Hills Juice, Cinnies cinnamon rolls and Softside ice cream. © superfuture
