KIND is one of Germany’s leading companies in hearing care and optics. Its in-house store design and construction department is responsible for the interior design and implementation of the company’s hybrid retail concept combining optics and hearing care.

KIND has now also opened a new store with over 225 m² in Osterode, Germany, demonstrating a responsible approach to historic half-timbered architecture.

During the building’s renovation, the half-timbered beams were exposed and meticulously sandblasted to restore their original, natural wood appearance.
To create a contrast, the historic structure was paired with a clean, modern KIND store design that was carefully adapted to the local setting.
Shades of anthracite, gray, and white—along with exposed technical systems on the light-gray sprayed ceiling— create a cool contrast to the restored half-timbered beams and the solid wood parquet flooring.
The 4.50-meter ceiling height was deliberately highlighted by exposing the original ceiling, lending the entrance area an almost cathedral-like atmosphere.
A large, illuminated staircase connects the various levels resulting from the building complex’s history and is staged together with the half-timbered structure.
