Open House by Klein Dytham Architecture, Bangkok – Thailand

Instead of occupying one box-like retail unit, Open House’s bookstore weaves its way throughout the entire Open House space. A tall book shelf has been installed at one end of the space, while a large double-height library wall wraps around the other. Smaller book shelves with integrated seating are scattered throughout, blending into the bar and restaurant spaces so people can browse at their leisure.

Much of the architectural splendour of the original structure, including artistic and sculptural details, as well as the auditorium lighting has been maintained, with thousands of books lining the walls of the mezzanine levels that offer views of the entire interior.

Designer chose Agora, a plaza formed in polis ancient Greek city state, as a motive of this space. Agora is the day was plaza, marketplace, place with storytelling, and such a space where people discussed about politics, economy and society freely. Consequently, it was a space of daily life forming culture in it, and the designer plans to create such a space at this project.
