Hermès store opening, Copenhagen

Upon entering the store, shoppers come across the brand’s mosaic ex-libris, followed by a lofty, open-plan retail space that’s defined by natural blond wood, pristine white walls and back walls in a contrasting prussian blue shade. The main retail space is furnished with custom-made pieces in cherry wood, while floor-to-ceiling wooden frames, decorated with Hermès’ renowned silks, serve as partitions and add a sense of intimacy to the setting.

Evans uses sculptural furniture to fabricate an alternate reality that mirrors the city streets outside, featuring architectural volumes constructed and cut out from aged and stained materials such as bricks, concrete, brass beams, rusted steel and blackened iron.

Amidst the current retail frenzy, the house of Hermès has also raised its profile, relocating its boutique in the swanky neighbourhood of Belgravia a few blocks down the road to premises almost double the size. It’s set across two floors of a listed 1950s building, and the interior design by Paris-based architecture practice Rdai is predictably lavish and elegant.

Diverting away from the typically rigid nature of retail through curved lines and cut-outs, we re-worked the traditional accessory display into new formations allowing the products to become sculptures in themselves.

Presented under the Witty Moniker of Hermésmatic, the luxury brand allows owners of an iconic Hermès silk scarf, or carré, to have the item transformed by way of a complimentary dyeing procedure in a specially conceived mini laundromat environment.

Situated in the heart of town smack on Dam square, the ground floor obviously is its main showcase. Infused with slabs of white marble, it’s here where a select number of luxury brands have been granted a shop-in-shop, and not surprisingly, Hermès made the cut.

Given the total space of 670 sqm. [7,212 sq.ft.], it’s the full package that’s alluringly presented here in different settings throughout the premises. These different sections are, for the most part, tied in by pristine white floors and teak flooring.
