The Warehouse Hotel by Zarch Collaboratives, Singapore

Three warehouses have been combined and outfitted, starting a new lease of life as a 37-room boutique hotel. The Hotel fronts the Singapore River with a distinctive, symmetrical façade and jacked roofs while original design elements like louvre windows, doors, cornices, mouldings and the Chinese characters on the leftmost gable are sensitively retained and restored.

To open up the interior, we removed the dropped ceiling to expose the existing roof joists, and added skylights to bring in natural light. Curved and angled walls below the joists create a sense of movement and expansion when walking along the hallway.

Large skylights in oval shape on the roof give extra light to the atrium. All that create a specific warm and sunny climate and the food court in such a warm and sunny atmosphere is an ideal place for rest and relax. This feature is rarely seen in such objects of public use.

Walls are painted in bright colors or coated with white-board paint.
