Some retailers keep the lights either low or glaring to obscure the faults of their fashion. Instead Gustav Bruynseraede used lighting in his single-label Eiermarkt, Antwerp boutique to enlighten the shopping experience and showcase the true colours of his Issey Miyake garments.
With Zumtobel’s help, Dutch scientist and artistic engineer Luuk van Laakey of digiluce created an interactive conceptual design for the 300-sq-m space. The shop inhabits a 16th century heritage building, the ceiling of which could not be altered, so all new lighting had to be installed in slots formed by the previous fixtures. Frameless INTRO driver modules divide the shop into zones, where networks of motion sensors translate customer movements into a choreography of brightness levels, defining the zones and drawing customers dynamically through the space.
Beneath a cascade by PANOS infinity downlights with a tunable White technology and EMOTION touch panel, the motions of shoppers immediately set the illumination of the four changing rooms into flux. Clerks can also adjust brightness and colour temperature to show off certain materials and colours and also schedule scenarios to play for events. LED spotlights boast a precision colour rendering of Ra95 while lowering heat transfer and cutting energy consumption by 70 percent.
