A decade after first opening up shop and six years after the inauguration of its Paddington location, Black Blaze founders Ray Zheng and Joe Zhou have given the retail space a striking revamp. The store, situated in one of Sydney‘s most fashionable shopping areas, has since become the go-to address for those with a palate for tightly curated collections of home fragrances, home objects and tableware. For the store transformation, the entrepreneurial duo tapped local architecture practice Strutt Studios to create a new setting for the compact, 36 sqm. (388 sq.ft.) retail space. The new design codes aim to offer a more cohesive and elevated backdrop for Black Blaze‘s cherry-picked offerings. A warm yet concise material palette of different timbers, steel and tiles is captured by a variety of custom furnishings and fixtures, and combined with a streamlined configuration, the setting effortlessly stirs up shoppers to explore both the premises and the merchandise on offer. Taking centre stage is an elongated sales and display counter with a sleek metal top and matching legs, flanked on both sides by timber panelling and tiered shelving with similarly robust legs. At the far end, shoppers come across additional nooks, including a homey corner where they can sit back to take in the beautiful retail space and ponder over the next trophy purchase. As said, Black Blaze carries a variety of home products, comprising its very own collections, but also selected products by local makers. © superfuture
