As one of the wayfaring establishments that helped to revive downtown Los Angeles, Ace Hotel very much anchors the neighbourhoods newly acquired aura of cool with a unique formula that pairs contemporary hospitality with cultural engagement. The property opened almost four years ago, and similarly to its sister establishments, it has garnered a sizeable fanbase both home and abroad. But the popularity hasn’t deterred the property to further tweak its offerings, and as of late it has rebranded its signature restaurant on the ground floor. Now baptized Best girl – it’s a firm nod to the hotel’s history as the once home of film studio United Artists and its co-founder and actress Mary Pickford whose silent film My best girl [1927] happened to be the first one to be screened at the United Artists Theatre, now of course The Theatre at Ace Hotel – the venue has very much retained the original interior, including the checkered flooring, tables with brass tops, and matching pendant lamps. The rebranding follows a new collab between Ace Hotel and award-winning chef Michael Cimarusti.

Best girl is suitable for any time of the day as it serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch with a menu that’s inspired by the history, culture and many cuisines of Los Angeles. A total number of 132 guests can be seated at Best girl, spread over the cozy dining room and mezzanine floor, the bar are and patio. The restaurant offers eclectic a seasonal menu that feature a wide range of meats and vegetables, all served with matching cocktail, beer and wine offerings. Mind you, proceeds of the wildcat cocktail go to Lunch on Me, a local grassroots non-profit organization which focuses on elevating human beings out of poverty through daily organic food deliveries and consistent innovative programming. For lunch there’s a similarly rich variety anchored by healthy salads, along with tasty specialty sandwiches. And even if you’re not a sweet tooth, you’ll want at least to have a peek at the delicious dessert menu.
