Setter Architects engaged in the design and production of the nature-inspired offices of CollPlant, a medical company based in Rehovot, Israel. Our design concept for CollPlant’s offices drew inspiration from the company’s content world. Paralleling the production process of its plant-derived medical solutions, the design was inspired by links between people and nature, the organic structures of plants, and leaf veins – with a play of textures, and a transition from micro to macro. Some of the company’s processes are reflected in elements featured throughout its offices. The floor was divided into two areas, with offices and shared workspace on the northern side, and labs and development rooms on the southern side.
The entrance lobby features clean, elegant materials, with an art-wall that simulates a microscopic look into collagen cells, integrated with moss vegetation which emerges from metal “tissues” that hold the simulated collagen cells with recycled ecological material. For the company, it was important to reflect the development of collagen to honor the company’s starting point.
A seating pavilion simulates a plant-growing greenhouse, offering seating in a different atmosphere. Public areas were designed as open spaces enjoying natural lighting, integrated with plantings to create a sense of the exterior. This strengthens the connections with the natural world – emphasizing neutral colors, the use of natural materials, concrete floors, and exposed ceilings combined with floating net ceilings.
The cafeteria which faces the view, functions both as a kitchenette for employees and a meeting area, providing the feeling of a restaurant/patio. The cafeteria’s design features several natural materials – terrazzo-like flooring, natural marble that surrounds the kitchen island, and a carpentry bench for communal sitting, enhanced by plants.
