Dehydrated skin when flying is definitely a thing of the past, at least at Amsterdam Airport. Here, Aesop has recently inaugurated a counter at Departure Hall 1 (airside), brimming with a wide range of its coveted products. The design, created by the company’s in-house design team in Melbourne, takes ample cues from Schiphol, the airport’s storied location just a few kilometres south of Amsterdam. Situated on reclaimed land, back in the 15th century it was a vast lake fringed by wetlands and whipped by fierce southwest winds. Unsurprisingly, many ships didn’t reach their destination and shipwrecks were commonplace. Drawing inspiration from this maritime history, the sides of the Aesop resembles a ship’s wooden hull, incorporating curves and sharp edges, they evoke the hull of a merchant vessel. The volume is crafted from solid oak, a hardwood that’s abundant in Europe and prized in boatbuilding since ancient times. This wooden hull encloses a space dedicated to Aesop‘s Eaux de Parfum. The fragrances rest in a custom-designed box, its curtained opening a subtle nod to the sophisticated world of leisure boating. The new Aesop counter carries a selection of the brand’s skin, hair and body products, and, as said, fragrances. © superfuture
